Ross School Visit

Ross School from New York will be visiting. Some of the ākonga from Paetawhiti will be involved with their visit.

Paerangi hikoi

Planning is also underway for the annual Paerangi Hikoi. The yearly event for our senior school is largely about whakawhanaungatanga, learning about our Ngapuhi history and establishing our Kura goals and standards for the year. Information will be sent home with ākonga prior to the event.

Ākonga and whanau powhiri

The whole of Kura will return on Tuesday Feb 9. There will be a pōwhiri involving all ākonga and their whānau at our gym at 168 Lower Dent St, Whangarei, starting at 10am. The pōwhiri is for all new staff, ākonga and their whānau. We are expecting over 250 people and advise whānau to arrive early and look for parking on the outside roads, because car parking space will be hard to find.

NOTE: All past students need to be at Paerangi by 9am to prepare for the pōwhiri. We ask whānau of current ākonga to bring a plate.

  • 9.00am: Arrival current students and staff
  • 10.00am: Start of pōwhiri for all new students, new staff and their whānau
  • 11.00am: Light morning tea (all whānau of current students to please bring a plate to tautoko the kaupapa)

Leaders Waitangi Retreat

This year’s Pou Arahi (student leadership team) will start the year off with a retreat in Waitangi February 4. It will be an early start for those involved, meeting at the Kura at 7:15am, and returning approximately 8pm.

The ākonga will attend the Iwi leaders Forum as guests of the Ngati Wai chairman Haydn Edmonds. Take part in some team building and have a guest speaker at dinner.

Ākonga will need to come to school in their number ones and pack some casual clothes, togs and a towel as well. The annual retreat is not only a time to get to know each other as the senior leaders of Te Kāpehu Whetū, but an opportunity to see leadership in action.

Permission forms will be given to ākonga at their PLP meeting on Tuesday.
