Ki runga i te reo karanga o te wiki o te reo Māori
He wiki whakamiharo ta matou i tera wiki………….
At Paenuku we had Whaea Hera and Whaea Lu out māuiui. Our staff stepped up as they always do and carried the week for us. Whaea Erana led our daily kapahaka practice with Whaea Sam and Matua Gene supporting. Whaea Faith coordinated the week with support from Whaea Petina and Whaea Arohaina, with Whaea Del, Matua Stanko, Matua Rua and Year 10 ākonga, backing up.
Paetata spent the whole week at AIMs games and from all accounts it was a huge success. Looking forward to hearing about it from Pouako and ākonga. That left Paerangi and the year 9s from Paetawhiti back at Dent Street doing the mahi!!
On Thursday, they all went to see Encanto, kei roto i te reo Māori. While on Friday, Paetawhiti and Paerangi spend the afternoon at the pools
What a week it was!!
NOTE: with Whaea Hera and Lu away, we have decided to move Market Day out to Term 4 – TBC
Kia pai to wiki!

Paenuku
Whakawhetaitanga
We at Paenuku would like to express our greatest gratitude to Whaea Erana, Matua Gene & Whaea Sam for all your mahi during kapahaka and keeping us on track in the preparations for regionals. We would also like to give a special thanks to Whaea Petina, Matua Stanko, Whaea Kei, Matua Rua, and Ezra Toi and Cuvier Jackson for supporting our paenuku pouako and akonga throughout this week.
It was awesome having Ezra Toi and Cuvier Jackson here at Paenuku this week, it really showcased the importance of tuakana – teina relationships and how this concept benefits our younger tamaiti to be confident, successful leaders.
Ezra and Cuvier’s main mission was to support our taimaiti with their high energies, from what i observed it was quite the opposite and these two young men had zero energy left by the time we got to paramanawa!
However, a special thank you to the both of you for your efforts during this week, We loved having you on-site and look forward to seeing both of you in and around Paenuku more often.

REMINDER: KAPA HAKA TRAINING STARTS BACK UP THIS WEEK
We are drawing closer to the kapa haka regionals that take place in Kaikohe on the 19th of October 2024 (End of Week 1 Term 4).
Below is the outline of the training schedule moving forward from here. It is important that your tamaiti/tamariki attend all trainings and come prepared, knowing every item, so that we can continue to progress with our bracket.
As always, we want to ensure that our kapa put their best foot forward. We have an exciting bracket with lots of new elements, and we will need each practice to perfect each item.
As the competition date approaches, we will send out another pānui outlining performance times and the travel schedule. This will include a list of items each tamaiti will need for the performance.
If you have any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to contact Matua Ropata, Whaea Hera, or Staff Louis.

Aims Games 2024
The 2024 Aims Games in Tauranga was an unforgettable experience for Paetata, who participated in not just one, but three sports: table tennis, rippa rugby, and netball. Over the course of six action-packed days. Paetata gave it their all, demonstrating determination, skill, and resilience, both in victories and defeats.
Rippa rugby was all about speed, strategy, and teamwork. Paetata’s team experienced both the thrill of victory and the sting of defeat, but each watch brought them closer as a unit. There were games where their defense held strong, and they emerged victorious with some impressive tries. Other times, the opposing teams found gaps in their defense, leading to some losses. However, even in those moments, the camaraderie within the team never faltered. Each player learned the importance of communication, trust, and supporting one another on the field. Thank you to staff Louis and Matua Mohi for coaching and managing the rippa team.
Paetata Netball
Netball presented a different challenge-coordination and teamwork were paramount. Paetata worked hard to execute plays, moving swiftly around the court. Some games ended in victory, with excellent shooting and defense securing their wins. However, there were also losses where the opposing teams were just that little bit sharper. Regardless of the outcome, the netball matches highlighted the importance of playing as a cohesive unit, where every pass and intercept contributed to the bigger picture. Thank you to Whaea Toni and Whaea Kerrian for coaching and managing the netball team.
Paetata Table Tennis
Drey and Te Morehu our two man table tennis duo held it down for paetata. The table tennis matches were a real test for the boys that required focus and precision. They faced tough competitors, some with years of experience. while a few matches were lost in narrow margins, there were also moments of triumph, with several hard-fought wins. The intensity at the table tennis events reminded us that patience and quick reflexes are key to success in this sport. Overall our boys had fun, picking up new skills and showcasing moves that they had been working on over the past term.. well done Tama Mā. Thank you to Whaea Mere and Whaea Terryann for daily transport and keeping a watchful eye on the boys.
Paerangi
Tēnā tātou katoa.
It was a quiet week at tuakana site without Paetata and the Year 10 ākonga, but there was no time for rest with the Year 11’s having multiple assessments to complete this week. But we did take time out to join the rest of the kura at the movie, can’t pass up the opportunity for some whanaungatanga and popcorn!
As the end of the term gets closer Paerangi will have more and more assessments needing to be complete. Some of these can be worked on at home to help them get finished faster.
The more mahi done now, the earlier ākonga get to go on term break. Wasting time and not focusing now will mean spending more of summer inside at kura, the choice is yours!

Attendance
PLEASE NOTE:
Along with disallowing cell phones and IT devices from being used in Kura (unless part of a lesson and allowed for learning by Pouako) another Government policy being measured is Student Attendance. See below:
The Government has set a target of 70% regular attendance for every student each term for 2024
Attendance is linked to both student wellbeing and to attainment. Ministry of Education insights studies show that attending Kura regularly is, on average, associated with more positive wellbeing outcomes. Attendance is also linked to student attainment especially in secondary students.
Although we have a good attendance rate across the Kura, it can be better. Our attendance across both sites is usually around mid-high 70s.
We understand that there are valid and important reasons for ākonga to be out of school at times and this is ok but please let the tari know when and why your child is absent.
Tari Year 7-13 ring Whaea Jackie: (09) 955 9996
Tari Year 1-6 ring Whaea Sam: (09) 438 8033
Automated text notification of absence
We have reinitiated our automated text message system for absences starting next week. If your child is marked with an unknown absence in the morning on an automatic text message will be sent to the primary caregiver(s) to notify them.
Thank you very much to all whanau who have responded to these texts either by replying or contacting the office. This has made a significant difference to the number of unjustified absences we have.
Policies
Te Kāpehu Whetū has worked with SchoolDocs to create a website for our policies and procedures.
The school works on a subscription basis with SchoolDocs to maintain, update, and review our policies. SchoolDocs provides us with a comprehensive core set of policies, which have been well researched and align with the National Education and Learning Priorities. The policies and procedures are tailored to our school, and the school supplies specific information such as our charter, and procedures for behaviour management, reporting to parents, etc.
SchoolDocs updates, modifies, or creates policies in response to changes in legislation or Ministry guidelines, significant events, reviews/requests from schools, and regular reviewing from the SchoolDocs team. Our school board has the opportunity to view changes/additions and comment on them before they are implemented.
We invite you to visit the site at School Docs
